You Were Never Meant to Just Survive. Here's How You Rise.
You Were Never Meant to Just Survive. Here's How You Rise.
I remember when I was going through a divorce years ago and scoured the web looking for something — anything — that could help me make sense of the grief, identity loss, and complete overwhelm that comes when the life you planned falls apart.
I didn't find much. So I did what I've always done when I can't find what I need. I built it myself.
I started piecing together a process — pulling from therapy, movement, music, community, and a lot of quiet moments sitting with feelings I didn't have names for yet. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't linear. But it worked.
And as I was going through it, I made myself a promise:
I would never let anyone go through something like that without a resource that could help them not just process the pain, but find purpose in it.
That promise didn't leave me.
It followed me through the years that came after.
Through building a business.
Through losing six people I loved in a single year.
Through a mental health crisis that brought me to my knees — and a journey back to joy that changed everything about how I now show up in the world and in this work.
Every hard season added something to the process. Every breakthrough refined it.
Over the years, I've written books, given talks, and coached others using this method. But this is the first time I'm putting it into a formal system — one that works just as well for individuals navigating their own hard seasons as it does for organizations trying to figure out why their people are still struggling despite every wellness program they've invested in.
Because here's what I've learned after years of doing this work — including my own:
The problem was never a lack of effort. It was a lack of process.
Why this? Why now?
75% of U.S. workers experienced a mental health challenge in the past year.
And most organizations are responding with apps, benefits packages, and lunch-and-learns that check a box but don't change much.
Because having wellness benefits and having a wellness culture are two completely different things.
What people and organizations actually need is what I needed all those years ago, sitting with grief I didn't know how to carry.
A real process. A holistic one. Something that meets you where you are — body, mind, and spirit — and actually moves you through it.
That's what The Soul Therapy RISE Method™ is. Listen to the Soul Therapy Podcast for a deeper dive and see below for the infographic.

The method has four phases. Here's the heart of each one:
- (R)ecognize is where you name what's actually happening — for yourself and with your people. What goes unaddressed doesn't disappear. It shows up in your health, your relationships, and your culture.
- (I)nvite is where isolation breaks. You give yourself — and your team — real tools for expression and genuine human connection. This is where culture starts to shift.
- (S)hift is where you stop treating challenges like evidence that something is wrong with you — and start treating them as data. Resilience isn't built in a workshop. It's built through having hard conversations and doing hard things.
- (E)volve is where it all becomes a way of life. Not a program. Not an initiative. Daily habits that fit into real life. Progress is celebrated consistently and on purpose. Because healing isn't a destination — it's a practice.
I've found that this works just as well for individuals as it does for organizations.
And that's not an accident.
Every culture is made of people. When people don't have a process for moving through what they carry, that unprocessed weight shows up in how they collaborate, lead, and show up every day. It shows up in attrition rates and engagement scores and the exits nobody saw coming.
But when you give people a real process? Everything shifts.
For you personally. For your team. For your culture.
That's the whole point.
Because you were never meant to just survive. You were built to RISE.
